The overwhelming vote to reverse the amalgamation of several Queensland local councils is a victory for democracy, the state's local government minister says.
Significantly more people turned out in the local referendums than the last council election and on a par with last year's state election.
Residents in Douglas, Mareeba, Livingstone and Noosa were given the chance to reverse the amalgamation of councils, forced upon local governments by the state in 2008.
All voted in favour of splitting from their super councils.
